About Our Tumuhw (Land) Code
What is a Land Code?

A land code is the law for managing first nations reserve lands.
Why do we want to manage our own lands?

Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC...the old INAC) is no longer involved in managing our reserve lands. Penelakut Tribe now has independent control over our own reserves. Our Land Code is community driven, for our people ~ by our people!
The Penelakut Tribe Land Code empowers us to go back to the ways we used to manage our lands, teachings, and practices. No more delays. No more red tape! Penelakut Tribe no longer needs to wait on CIRNAC. We control our own projects, and complete files faster and on our own schedule.

Our Land Code lays out a number of important governing functions, which include transparency and accountability to the membership in all decisions relating to our lands. The land code is "the peoples land law", and not a tool that can only be used by a chosen few.
